It's Getting Hot (or Cold) in Here: Strategies to Mediate Unteachable Moments in Education Abroad  
Increasing social and political polarization in society and on many college campuses in the United States and beyond is amplifying anxieties, tensions, and challenges among educators, administrators, students, and community representatives in education abroad. When tensions go unaddressed, they result in mistrust, disengagement, and “unteachable moments.” Learning how to anticipate Heated, Offensive, and/or Tense (H.O.T.) moments, mediate them in the moment, and work to repair relationships when they are damaged is possible.   
 
Join us to learn how H.O.T. moments can be opportunities to foster growth for everyone involved and build awareness of civic habits and skills needed to navigate intercultural and transnational contexts.   

Empowering Leadership: Upskilling Your Team for Student Services Success  
Maintaining a skilled and prepared workforce is both an essential competency of leaders in education abroad and a persistent challenge in a highly fluid global environment. This workshop will provide a framework for designing your own program in alignment with the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad. Using examples from actual training sessions, participants will emerge with an understanding of their team’s training needs, the tools to create high-quality staff training modules, and examples of specific sessions related to health, safety, and well-being. 

Developing and Leading Short-Term Education Abroad Programs 
The majority of U.S. students who study abroad do so on short-term, faculty-led programs. These programs require cooperative and collaborative relationships to be safe, effective, and educationally meaningful.  

This workshop will share resources and strategies to build relationships and delineate responsibilities to ensure that instructional design and curriculum development are skillfully interwoven with program development and administration to create an impactful experience for all. ​
